This image was taken from the 51st Annual of American Illustration (p. 15). The illustrator is Arnold Roth who joined the Hall of Fame 2009. The original image is twice this size and is called "Street Musicians" (found in Punch 1961). I scanned the image and cropped it. The other half of the image is highly complex (pen and ink work of multiple buildings). If you are taking Illustration next fall, you probably already have this Annual and can view the entire image. I plan to do this master study for my first project. I'll probably omit the figures at the bottom of the page.Monday, May 10, 2010

Hello Gail,
ReplyDeleteIs this the piece that you want to start with?
You could do the line-work with an Illustrator blob brush or photoshop brush and a tablet. You could do the watercolor digitally in Painter or do it by hand and scan it in to mix with the line-work in Photoshop. Can you give us a name of the illustrator and possibly a link to their website?
